Member Spotlight - May 2017

Basem Boutros

Basem BoutrosCongratulations to Basem Boutros, this year's winner of KON's Hettie M. Anthony Kappa Omicron Phi Fellowship in the amount of $2,000.

Basem is a third-year Ph.D. student in Hospitality Administration at Kansas State University. He is an active member of Omicron Theta Chapter at the College of Human Ecology, and says "Joining Kappa Omicron Nu was one of the pivotal things that has helped me grow as a leader and a successful graduate student. I have been challenging myself to keep up the good work in my study and community service since I was initiated in KON in spring 2016."

Basem's career objective is to pursue an academic job and get involved in teaching and doing research in applied food safety in foodservice operations. He hopes to contribute to the field by publishing quality research, teaching, and training. With this goal in mind, he says, "I would like to be prepared like all KON members to make our world just a little better place."
He is off to a great start! We are very proud to celebrate Basem's current and future achievements.
