Textile and Clothing Specialist
What is a textile and clothing specialist?
If you like clothing and fashion, you might like to be a textile and clothing specialist. Textile and clothing specialists design, create, produce, and sell fabrics and clothes. Some of the jobs that they work in include selling clothing, buying clothing for large stores, designing new fashions, illustration, testing and designing new fabrics, and managing stores.
Preparing for the job
After you graduate from high school, you can go to a community college to earn a one- or two-year certificate, or an associate degree. The classes you take there will teach you how to find artistic and creative ways to present clothing so that people will be more interested in buying it. They also explain how the fashion industry works. If you wish to be a designer or an executive in this field, you will need a four-year college degree. If you would like to teach textiles and clothing in a college, you will also have to earn a graduate degree.
The future
There are many opportunities for people who are interested in selling finished clothing and fabrics to the public. There are fewer jobs available in fashion and textile design, but people who are creative, talented, and determined can find opportunities there, as well.
