What do financial planners do?
If you like math and want to help people, this job is for you! Financial planners help people and families to reach financial goals by teaching them how to manage their money. Some financial planners work alone. Some work in banks or other businesses. Family financial planners are sometimes called financial services marketers, credit counselors, benefits administrators, or mortgage loan officers.
Preparing for the job
You should study general financial planning to become a financial planner. This will teach you how to use insurance, credit, savings, and investment instruments to reach financial goals. You will also need to know family/consumer economic skills like decision-making. To become a specialist, you can study certain topics more closely. These might include consumer problems, estate planning, or preparing for retirement. As a college student, you can major in family resource management or business. You can also go to graduate school to take classes that are more specialized. Finally, you must take a certification test before you can become a Certified Financial Planner.
The future
People have to make more and more choices about how to invest their money. Retirement plans are also growing. Many people are nearing the age where they will begin to think about retiring. For these reasons, there will be more financial planning jobs available in the future. Young people who become financial planners when they leave school will have a lot of opportunities and a bright career future.
