Procedure for Reviewing Chapter Bylaws

Responsibilities of the National Constitution Committee

The Constitution Committee shall recommend to the Board of Directors amendments to the constitution and shall review and approve bylaws of individual chapters.

Three-year process:

·         Review 1/3 of chapters each year.

·         Encourage chapters to complete the project earlier.

·         Use 3rd year to catch-up for chapters that did not complete earlier.

Model bylaws are available on the Web site: www.kon.org/chap_bylaws.html.

Rationale for Compliance:

·         Required to remain a chapter in good standing.

·         Required to receive Scholar Program money.

·         Required to receive chapter dues collected by the national office.

Self-Evaluation

Each chapter will complete the evaluation rubric (see next page) as a self-evaluation. Chapters may identify that their bylaws need no revision or that their bylaws need to be revised. Chapters will submit a copy of their bylaws and the completed rubric to the National Office.

Fall 2001: Chapter bylaws review documents and processes are sent to the chapters with the fall mailing. This will include the list of chapters for the three years.
